It's weird to think about how the opening joke is gonna be true in only twenty-four years as I'm writing this. I may have been born well after MASH finished airing, and after AfterMASH was rated one of the worst shows of all time, and ergo, born even longer after the Korean war, but STILL! First time I laughed watching MASH, and it's not gonna be a joke anymore! it's so weird??
One thing I always found strange about this episode was the focuses on Father Mulcahy, even though they wanted to change his actor by then (as far as I'm aware). It's fun, though! just a shocker seeing whoever-he-is when I'm already so used to my GOAT William Christopher. I love all the character interactions in this episode and it may be one of the best TV Show pilots I've ever seen.
Something something the wonderful blend of comedy and tragedy even just within the first five minutes of this episode. It's fun seeing Hawkeye and Trapper's determination to save people and get what they need, but it disgusts me that they had to, and I think this really sets the scene for a lot of the show. They're saving people and being heroes, but they shouldn't be. There shouldn't be people to save in the first place.
I was surprised watching the series that the set used for the alley where Trapper and Hawkeye meet Charlie wasn't used more. We hear a lot about going to Seoul, Tokyo, and so many stories about Boston and Mill Valley, but we never see any city streets, really. I believe the streets of Tokyo were seen in 2.12 The Incubator, but I don't think it was for long, if at all. I fall asleep by putting on that or 2.13 Deal Me Out. They're not boring; I just rewatch them so much it's no different than white noise for newborn babies at this point.
On another, very different note, Henry looks naked without his fishing hat. Also Trapper seems very excited about selling the desk and I love it. If it's not obvious by now, he's my favourite. In this episode we also get to see one of several times where someone wakes him up and he's immediately scared. He also uses sleeping as escapism as he mentions in an episode I can't remember, so it's something I find interesting.
I HATE FRANK, but I love the music in this episode. Are those points related? No(pe, it's oak), but I'm typing this as I rewatch the episode for the ninetieth time. The visual of Henry's desk flying away is possibly one of my favourite scenes.

Considering I remember very little about this episode, I think it's safe to say it's not highly significant.
